Culex pilosus (Dyar & Knab, 1906)
The distribution of this mosquito extends from south-eastern North America, over Central America to most parts of South America. In South America, it has been found to breed in temporary pools, including those with vegetation cover. In a location in Florida, U.S., the main hosts have been determined to be reptiles, in particular lizards of the genus Anolis (Reeves et al., 2019).
