Ctenolepisma longicaudata Escherich, 1905 - (long-tailed silverfish)

This species of silverfish is widely distributed and can be found in houses, stores and other dry environments. Being able to digest cellulose, it feeds on plant-based food, paper, cartons and dried grasses. In houses it usually does little damage and is more regarded as a nuisance pest.

C. longicaudata has a body length of around 10 mm, without the antennae and tails. The colour is uniformly grey like the more common Lepisma saccharina. However, it can be distinguished from that species by its long tails and the body being covered by many hairs.
