Cordyceps tenuipes (entomopathogen) (Peck) Kepler, B. Shrestha & Spatafora 2017
This fungus is regarded as a beneficial natural enemy of pest insects and infects various insect species, mainly from the orders Lepidoptera and Coleoptera. During epizootics more than 50% of the insects can become infected (e.g. Mascarin et al., 2017). In eastern Asia, the synnemata of the fungus (see illustration on the right) are used for medicinal purposes and the fungus is grown on silkworms.
