Colaphellus bowringi (Baly, 1865) - (cabbage leaf beetle)
This beetle is a pest of crucifers in China. The adults and larvae eat the leaves of crops like Brassica's or radish. The adults undergo 2 resting periods in the soil, a hibernation period in the winter and a diapause in the summer. Adults, emerging from the soil in spring re-enter the soil for the summer diapause after feeding and egg laying. They re-emerge in autum and there is normally one or more additional generations. Both, the duration of the resting periods, as well as the number and duration of the generations per year (up to 4) varies, depending on the environmental conditions and the geographical location.
