Coenosia Meigen, 1826 - (tiger flies)
This is a large genus of predatory flies with more than 300 species. The family is widely distributed and includes, among others, more than 100 species found in tropical Africa as well as around 100 species in the Palaeartic region. The adults hunt while flying and the larvae feed on soil arthropods. Several species are being studied and used as possible biological control agents.
