Chaitophorus populeti (Panzer, 1804) - (poplar shoot aphid)
This aphid is widely distributed in Europe and in temperate parts of Asia. It colonises the young shoots of poplar trees. The life cycle involves parthenogenetic reproduction throughout the spring and summer. Winged forms are produced in autumn which disperse and lay eggs. The eggs are the overwintering stage.
The nymphs are most commonly reddish brown or dark greenish. Mature wingless and winged adults are darker and often black.
