Ceratophyllus gallinae (Schrank, 1803) - (hen flea)

This flea infests chicken and a variety of other birds in tropical and subtropical regions. It lives, for example, in bird nests. C. gallinae might also bite humans and other mammals. The adults are 2-2½ mm long and dark brown (the specimen in the image at the right has been treated to make it transparent).
