Carpoglyphidae - Carpoglyphus lactis (Linnaeus, 1767) - (dried fruit mite)

The Carpoglyphidae is a small family of astigmatic mites with four genera (WikiSpecies) and few species. The most common member is the dried fruit mite, Carpoglyphus lactis, a wide-spread storage pest.

High densities of C. lactis, causing economic damage, can be found on products with a high sugar content and also in bee hives (e.g. Baker & Delfinado, 1978). On dried fruits, C. lactis is often the most abundant mite (e.g. Çobanoglu, 2008).
