Cannabis sativa (weed) L. - (weedy hemp)
Hemp is widely grown as a crop for its fiber and oil or as a drug. Wild growing forms are also found in many countries. They can be agricultural weeds, but are more of concern to law enforcement officials. The wild forms often grow in disturbed habitats with high nitrogen content or in crops. The plants die off in autumn, but the seeds remain dormant in the soil over the winter. They then regrow from the seeds in spring.
C. sativa plants can grow to a height of several metres. In wild plants, male and female flowers are typically produced on different plants. The flowers are wind pollinated and produce many small seeds, about 3-4 mm long.
