Callosciurus erythraeus (Pallas, 1779) - (Pallas's squirrel)
This squirrel is native to parts southeastern Asia where it lives in forests. Apparently through the pet trade, it has been introduced into South America (1970s), Europe (first record in Italy in 2007) and other parts of eastern Asia like Japan (1930s). In areas where it became established, it competes with native squirrels like the Eurasian red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris).
