A morphometric measure of phase in the desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria (Forsk.)
Bulletin of Entomological Research 58 (4), 803-809
Abstract: The derivation of a compound shape measure for discriminating between populations of Schistocerca gregaria is described. A canonical variate analysis was based on the three characters elytron length, femur length and caput width, measured for samples of both sexes from 12 populations. The first canonical variate for each sex accounted for most of the shape difference between populations, and is proposed as a measure of phase.
