An ultra-low-volume spraying technique for the control of the Desert Locust, Schistocerca gregaria (Forsk.)
Bulletin of Entomological Research 50 (2), 371-386
Abstract: By means of the exhaust-nozzle sprayer which produces a very fine spray of a concentrated oil solution of a persistent insecticide (dieldrin), successful control of hoppers was obtained with a dosage as low as 0.30 litres per hectare. Both "target" and "barrier" techniques were used successfully, the latter involving the application of the insecticide to the vegetation in swathes, which will poison the hoppers when they reach them.
