Buddleja davidii (weed) Franchet - (butterfly bush)
This plant species is native to eastern Asia. Because of its fragrant and colourful flowers, it has been widely introduced as an ornamental bush into Europe, the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, parts of Africa and other parts of Asia. In many areas it has become a serious environmental weed.
It often escapes gardens and cultivation and spreads quickly in disturbed habitats, preventing the establishment of native species. It produces a large amount of tiny seeds which are mainly released in spring, promoting their germination and the establishment of new plants. Research on finding suitable natural enemies that could become biological control agents are in progress.
