Botrytis fragariae Plesken, M. Hahn & R.W.S. Weber 2017
This fungus causes grey mould on strawberries, together with other Botrytis species. It was originally described from Germany, but was later found to be common in various regions of North America. In some surveys, up to one third of the grey mould isolates belonged to B. fragariae (Dowling et al., 2017). The fungus is very similar to the common grey mould pathogen Botrytis cinerea and both species can only be distinguished by DNA analysis.
