Botrytis byssoidea J.C. Walker 1925
This fungus is widely distributed and causes neck rot of onions. Other Allium species might also become infected. For example, the pathogen has been reported to cause leaf blight of chive (Koike et al., 2009). The conidia have an elliptical shape, around 12-15 x 6 µm. Persistent sclerotia are formed in the soil.
