Bostrichidae - (false powder-post beetles)
This family of beetles contains between 500 and 1,000 species. Many species are wood boring pests, but some are also important pests of stored grain like the lesser grain borer. Among the wood boring species, most breed in dead trees and wood structures, but a few attack also the wood and shoots of living trees. Because of their food preference they are easily transported through the trade of wood products and grain and several now have a wide distribution.
The adults are usually small, less than 10 mm long, and cylindrical. The head is often partly or completely hidden under the pronotum. The tarsi have 4 segments, or 5 segments with the first one being rudimentary. The final segments of the antennae are enlarged.
