Blunervirus - Blunervirus vaccinii

Assigned virus:
blueberry necrotic ring blotch virus (BNRBV)

The genus Blunervirus includes viruses similar to the Blueberry necrotic ring blotch virus (BNRBV) which has been assigned to the species Blunervirus vaccinii. That virus infects blueberry plants in southern parts of the U.S., from Mississippi to North Carolina. The symptoms include reddish-brown or necrotic rings and blotches, both on the upper and the lower leaf surfaces. Severely infected plants might drop their leaves prematurely. See Martin et al. (2012) for an overview of this virus.

The mechanism of natural spread of BNRBV is unknown, but it can spread in greenhouses, possibly through eriophyid mites (Cantu-Iris et al., 2013). The genome consists of 4 single-stranded, linear RNA(+) segments. These have a size of 5.9, 3.9, 2.6 and 1.7 kb, or 14 kb nucleotides in total.
