Blumeriella jaapii (Rehm 1907) von Arx 1961

This fungus causes cherry leaf spot and has a word-wide distribution. It is most prevalent in temperate regions. The infections result in lower yield, poorer fruit quality due to uneven ripening, and might also lead to early defoliation, reduced fruit set in the following season, and an increased risk for winter injury and tree death.

Leaves become infected through airborne ascospores or conidia. After overwintering on fallen leaves, apothecia and acervuli develop in spring. Control usually involves repeated fungicide applications.
