The beet black scorch virus is soil-borne and infects beet in various regions, causing rhizomania-like symptoms on the roots and necrosis on the leaves. It is a single-stranded (+) RNA virus with 28 nm large icosahedral particles and a monopartite genome of 3,644 nucleotides that encodes six open reading frames.
