Bembidion (predators) Latreille, 1802
This is a large genus of ground beetles with more than 1,000 species. It is widely distributed and includes some important biocontrol agents. Pest species from various insect groups are used as food like larvae of Lepidoptera, Diptera and Coleoptera, as well as sucking insects. Some species are specialized, e.g. Bembidion lampros feeds mainly on cereal aphids.
The adults are comparatively small (2-8 mm), fast moving and often prefer wet habitats. The genus is characterized, among others, by the structure of the male genitalia.
