• taro bacilliform virus (TaBV)
TaBV has been found on various Pacific islands infecting taro plants (Colocasia esculenta). Symptoms include downward curling of leaf blades (umbrella symptoms), vein clearing and stunting. During studies in Samoa it has been transmitted by mealybugs of the species Pseudococcus solomonensis and by seeds (Macanawai et al., 2005). The DNA genome of the strain studied contains 7458 bp with 4 open reading frames.
