Bacillus firmus (antagonist) Bredemann & Werner
This is a Gram-positive soil-borne bacterium showing antagonistic properties against plant parasitic nematodes and also plant pathogenic fungi. For example, some strains colonize the egg sacs of Meloidogyne species, apparently preventing egg hatching, and eventually leading to egg mortality. The bacterium is also effective against other genera of nematodes. Applications as seed dressings have given promising results.
