Screening of early maturing soybean breeding lines for major gene- and field-resistance to infection by Phytophthora sojae
Australasian Plant Pathology 22 (4), 137-142
Abstract: Both the field resistance and major gene resistance of early maturing soyabean cultivars to infection by P. sojae (Ps) were tested. Field resistance was tested in a disease nursery at the Hermitage Research Station near Warwick, Queensland, Australia, while major gene-resistance was evaluated under controlled environment conditions with a hypocotyl inoculation method. Twenty-five of the cultivars tested, including the 5 commercial cultivars, Ridley, Bowyer, Stephens, Forrest and Victor, demonstrated resistance to hypocotyl inoculation with Ps, Race 1. Some of these, including Victor, were susceptible to isolates of Ps having an intermediate Race 2 reaction and Race 15. Stephens was susceptible to Race 15. Several breeding lines and the commercial cultivar, Chaffey, had high levels of field resistance.
