Ascochyta lentis Vassiljevsky 1940 - (lentil ascochyta blight)

This fungus is widely distributed in temperate regions and causes ascochyta blight on lentils. Lesions develop on leaves, stems and pods. Infections result in a reduction of seed quality and yield. Losses of up to 70% have been reported. Management has relied on resistant cultivars (e.g. see Dadu et al., 2019) and fungicide applications (e.g. see Plant Disease (2015) 99). However, funcide resistance has developed and new pathotypes have evolved, infecting resistant cultivars.
