Arhopalus ferus (Mulsant, 1839) - (burnt pine longhorn beetle)
This long-horned beetle is native to Europe and temperate parts of Asia. It has been accidentally introduced into New Zealand. The beetle is attracted to burnt pine logs. It is regarded as a timber pest in some countries and infests dead and dying pine trees or those damaged by fire. Timber for export has to be treated to prevent spread of the beetle to other countries.
