Apium virus Y (ApVY)

This virus infects mainly celery (Apium graveolens) and has been reported from parts of the Americas, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. It is of quarantine concern in various countries.

Apart from celery, parsely, dill and coriander may also become infected. The symptoms include chlorosis, necrotic lesions, line patterns, mosaic, vein clearing and stunting. Severe symptoms make celery plants unmarketable and in some susceptible cultivars, infection rates of 55% and 71% have been reported (Koike et al., 2012).
