Abstract: In 1993, a new device for catching moths of Lobesia botrana was developed and tested under field conditions. By use of this device it was possible to obtain precise information on the density of moths per unit area, sex-ratio and reproduction status. Knowledge about these parameters, which have great influence on infestation, is of importance for an efficient prognosis of attack. It also permits determination of the 'critical density of moths', above which mating disruption through pheromone application is no longer effective.
