Antonina graminis (Maskell, 1897) - (Rhodesgrass mealybug)

This mealybug is native to southern Asia from Sri Lanka to China and south to most parts of Australia. It was discovered in pastures in Texas and Mexico in 1942, causing considerable damage to a variety of grasses, in particular Rhodes-grass (Chloris gayana). It further spread to other parts of the Americas. There may be up to 5 generations per year. The eggs hatch within the body of the females and live nymphs are born.

In the Americas, A. graminis was brought under control through the importation and release of several exotic parasitoids, like species of Anagyrus and Neodusmetia sangwani (Bartlett et al., 1978).
