Anomala orientalis (Waterhouse, 1875) - (Oriental beetle)

The beetle is native to Asia and has become a serious pest of turf in North America. It also attacks several other crops like blueberry. The main damage is done by the root feeding white grubs. There is one generation per year and the larvae overwinter in the soil. The adult is about 1 cm long and usually has a mottled pattern of light brown and metallic black, rarely all black. Each elytrum has 6 deeply grooved striae.
