Alternaria triticina Prasada & Prabhu 1963 - (leaf blight of wheat)
This fungus has been recorded in parts of Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa. It causes a leaf blight disease on wheat, but other cereals like oat, barley and rye may also become infected. The fungus survives in infected seeds, soil, or plant debris. The symptoms start as small lesions on the leaves, which enlarge, with a bright yellow chlorotic margin. The disease may also affect the leaf sheaths and seed heads. Transmission through infected seeds appears to be the most common mechanism. A. triticina belongs to the section Infectoriae of the Alternaria species (Woudenberg et al., 2013).
