Alternaria sesami (E. Kawamura) Mohanty & Behera 1958

This fungus is widely distributed and causes a serious disease of sesame plants. Infected plants develop leaf spots, and the stems and seeds can also show lesions. Yield losses of up to around 50% have been reported, and the disease can be transmitted through the seeds (Ojiambo et al., 2000). A. sesami belongs to the section Porri of the Alternaria species (Woudenberg et al., 2014).
