Alternaria porri (Ellis) Cif. 1929
The fungus is wide-spread and causes or contributes to purple blotch of onion.
A. porri is the type species of the largest subgroup of the genus Alternaria (section Porri). This section is characterized by the shape (ellipsoid, subcylindrical or obovoid) and formation of their conidia which have long beaks (see Woudenberg et al., 2014).
