Alternaria panax Whetzel 1912
This fungus is widely distributed and causes leaf and stem blight of ginseng and other crops. Often a high incidence of more than 20% is reported from ginseng fields and epidemics can also develop, especially if ginseng is cultivated in the same field for several years.
The conidia are around 30 µm long and 10 µm wide, with 5-10 transverse and some longitudinal septa. A. panax forms a group with several Alternaria species whose conidia are "conspicuously constricted near several transverse septa" (Woudenberg et al., 2013).
