Alternaria mali Roberts 1914
The fungus causes apple leaf blotch or fruit spots in some regions. Affected fruits have a reduced quality and are downgraded by dealers. It is closely related to and can be confused with Alternaria alternata which is a much more common pathogen of apple (the strains are called apple pathotype of A. alternata).
