Alternaria macrospora Zimm. 1904 - (Alternaria leaf blight of cotton)
This fungus infects cotton, causing leaf spot, leaf blight and defoliation. Between outbreaks, the cotton plants can be infected but symptomless. These then trigger epidemics when the agroenvironmental conditions are suitable for the fungus (Bashan, 1994). A. macrospora is a member of Alternaria Section Porri.
