Alternaria dianthicola Neerg. (1945)
This fungus is widely distributed and infects carnation (Dianthus) and other plants, causing blight diseases. A. dianthicola is the type species of the section Dianthicola, a group of Alternaria species that have been described by Woudenberg et al. (2013) as having "simple or branched primary conidiophores, with or without apical geniculate proliferations. Conidia are narrowly ovoid or narrowly ellipsoid with transverse and few longitudinal septa, slightly constricted at the septa, with a long (filamentous) beak or apical secondary conidiophore, solitary or in short chains."
