Alternaria bataticola W. Yamam 1960

This fungus is found in tropical and subtropical parts of Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas. It causes Alternaria blight on sweet potatoes which can be a serious disease in some countries. Symptoms start as brown lesions on the leaves, petioles and stems. These turn black and eventually result in death of the plant. A. bataticola belongs to section Porri, a large-spored group of Alternaria species (Woudenberg et al., 2014).
