Alphanecrovirus nicotianae

The tobacco necrosis virus A infects various crops. Apart from tobacco, it has been reported from cucumbers, soybeans, olives and potatoes, causing necrosis and deformation of the leaves. Alphanecrovirus nicotianae is the type species of the genus Alphanecrovirus and is transmitted by the fungus Olpidium brassicae. The genome consists of a positive-sense, single-stranded RNA that contains five open reading frames. A Chinese isolate from soybeans has been sequenced and found to contain 3,682 nucleotides (Xi et al., 2008).
