Alphacarmovirus pelargonii
Assigned virus:
• pelargonium flower break virus (PFBV)
The pelargonium flower break virus infects geranium (Pelargonium) plants in various regions like the Mediterranean or eastern Asia (Wei et al., 2015. The symptoms include colour-breaking on the flowers, ringspots and leaf mottling. However, it is symptomless in many cultivars.
It can be transmitted mechanically like by contaminated tools or by surface contaminated pollen, but not by aphids or seeds. Heat treatments can free infected plants of the virus.
