Aleurodicus dugesii Cockerell, 1896 - (giant whitefly)
This whitefly is found in central and southern parts of North America, Hawaii and parts of south-eastern Asia. It is believed to be native to Mexico, but has invaded several other regions starting in the 1990s. A. dugesii is polyphagous and will breed on many types of ornamentals as well as other crops like vegetables, bananas, avocado or citrus. Damage in recently invaded areas is often significant and economically important.
Adult whiteflies can be relatively easily distinguished from other Aleurodicus species by their large size (about 5 mm) and the grey patches on the forewings.
