Aedeomyia squamipennis (Lynch Arribalzaga, 1878)
This mosquito is found in tropical parts of South and Central America where it lives mainly in forests feeding on birds. It is an important vector of the Gamboa virus and avian malaria, and is also suspected of transmitting the Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus. It breeds in swamps and pools with dense growths of aquatic vegetation.
