Effects of different colour backgrounds on spawning biology of Grapholita molesta
Acta Phytophylacica Sinica 40 (3), 200-204
Abstract: In order to study the effects of different colour backgrounds nn spawning biology of Grapholita molesta Busck, the preoviposition duration, oviposition Duration, mating rate, adult longevity fecundity and the hatching rate of G. molesta were examined nn different colour backgrounds (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple) in the laboratory. The results showed that the preoviposition duration was the longest on purple background of 7.32 d while was the shortest on yellow background of 4.94 d. Oviposition duration was the longest on green background of 13.53 d and shortest on purple background of 8.57 d. Female adults reared on yellow and green backgrounds laid significantly more eggs (90.18 and 88.29 eggs laid per female, respectively) than those reared nn the others. Adult mating rate was the highest on green and blue backgrounds of 96.08% and lowest on purple Background, while female longevity was the longest on blue background of 22.26 d and followed by green background of 22.19 d. The egg duration was the longest and the hatching rate was the lowest nn purple background. The results indicated that the environment colours could significantly influence the spawning biology of G. molesta.
