[Effect of leaf mining by Liriomyza sativae larvae on photosynthesis of some crops]
Acta Entomologica Sinica 49 (1), 100-105
Abstract: CI-310 portable photosynthesis system was used to measure effects of leaf mining by Liriomyza sativae larvae on photosynthesis of some crops. The results showed that with the increase in the mined area grade of leaf by miners, the photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs), transpiration rate (Tr) and stomatal limiting value (Ls) in castorbean Ricinus communis and kidney bean Phaseolus vulgaris generally decreased. Positive relations existed in the above two crops between different treatment grades and intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci)variation. After the palisade tissue of castorbean and cucumber Cucumis sativus leaves were mined by L. sativae larvae, their chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll contents were decreased compared with that of the control; and the higher the mined grade, the greater the decrement. There were negative relations between the mined grade of leaf and total chlorophyll contents, their coefficient of correlation was -0.93 for castorbean and -0.95 for cucumber. After the mesophyll of kidney bean, cucumber and suakwa vegetable sponge Luffa cylindrica were mined, the leaf fresh weights of different grades showed no regularity in variation.
