Aceria (genus - on weeds)
This is a large genus of gall mites which contains around 1000 species. The mites feed on the surface of leaves, inflorescences and fruits. The feeding activity induces the formation of tumour-like galls or scarring of the fruit surface. Several are economical pests, however, other species are beneficial biological control agents which infest specific weeds.
