Acacia mearnsii (weed) De Wild. - (black wattle)
This tree has been introduced into South Africa in the 19th century as a source of fuel and timber. While it is still considered useful in local communities, it is expanding its range and is now growing over an area of more than 4,000 km2, suppressing native vegetation. In 1995, a management program was initiated by the Government of South Africa.
