Abgrallaspis aguacatae Evans, Watson & Miller, 2009
This species of armored scale insect has been described as a pest of avocado in Central America. It is of quarantine importance, because it has been found on avocados imported from Mexico into the U.S.A. In the original description (Gregory A. Evans et al., 2009), the authors already mentioned the lack of clear morphological characters for placing species into the genus Abgrallaspis or into similar genera like Diaspidiotus and Hemiberlesia. A later phylogenetical study suggested that A. aguacatae is likely misplaced in Abgrallaspis (Rugman-Jones et al., 2010).
