Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV)
The virus is widespread and causes the plum pseudopox disease. It infects mainly pome and stone fruit trees. Symptoms include chlorotic blotches, ring and/or line patterns, leaf distortion, necrotic spots, stunting and premature leaf drop. Infections can result in reduced growth and yield. Natural ways of spread of the virus are unknown. No seed transmission or insect vector has been demonstrated. In crops it spreads through infected plant material, or through mechanical means like grafting.
ACLSV has flexuous filamentous particles, approximately 600-750 nm long and 12 nm wide. The genome consists of positive-sense single stranded RNA, with 7474-7561 nucleotides, which contains three overlapping open reading frames: ORF 1 encodes the large replication-associated protein, ORF 2 encodes the movement protein, and ORF 3 encodes the viral coat protein. It is the type species of the genus Trichovirus.
