Alphabaculovirus thorichlaceae (entomopathogen)
Assigned virus:
• Thysanoplusia orichalcea nucleopolyhedrovirus (ThorNPV or ThorMNPV)
Since 2023, the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) is listing Alphabaculovirus thorichlaceae as a virus species, based on isolate p2 (Genbank accession JX467702) of the Thysanoplusia orichalcea nucleopolyhedrovirus (ThorNPV). This isolate was found in Thysanoplusia orichalcea caterpillars in Indonesia and is a multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus according to Wang et al. (2012) who sequenced it. A single nucleopolyhedrovirus has been also described from Thysanoplusia orichalcea (Cheng et al., 1998).
