Solidago gigantea (weed) Ait. - (giant goldenrod)

This weed is native to North America and invasive in Europe and Asia. It was introduced into Europe as an ornamental during the 18th century and is now widespread and problematic there. In its native range it grows mainly in wetlands, but is also found in drier areas in invaded countries. Common habitats are disturbed areas and abandoned fields.

S. gigantea is strongly competitive, forms dominant stands and reduces species richness in invaded areas. Its rhizomes fragments can spread easily and regenerate. Management is difficult (Nagy et al., 2020).
