Pochonia chlamydosporia (antagonist) (Goddard) Zare & W. Gams 2001
The fungus has been mainly studied as a parasite of nematode cysts and eggs (e.g. root-knot nematodes like Meloidogyne spp.), but has been also reported as an antagonist of plant pathogenic fungi. It lives in the soil, can colonize the rhizosphere, live as an endophyte in the roots and can also survive as a saprophyte. However, application of a specific fungal strain to the soil has not always given consistent results and the fungus may fail to establish.
